How it Works

Phantom Grips precision cut disc plates function as a disc-type limited slip in cornering and braking. Disc plates exert equal load against spider gears using spring pressure to control the amount of slippage at the wheels. Helping to accelerate quicker, while sustaining higher speeds through corners.

Phantom Grip offers 100% locking in hard acceleration. When torque is applied through acceleration the disc plates pivot, locking spiders, causing both wheels to exert equal power to the road, providing less torque steer than an ordinary differential. Although seemingly simple, the 'Phantom Grip design' offers as much maximum traction as other limited slips. The Phantom Grip is extremely strong and durable and comes with a Lifetime Warranty against manufacturer defects.

"Disclaimer of Warranty"---WARNING: Installation of any Phantom Grip component or kit should be performed by persons experienced in the installation and proper operation of transmission and drivetrain products. Purchasers expressly affirm they are relying upon their own skill or judgment to select and purchase Phantom Grip limited Slip conversion kits. Warranties are void against incorrect installation, or modifications done to Phantom Grip units.

Tech Tips

Tip #1
Basic open differential installation instructions for qualified installers only. See them here.

Tip #2
The more flat the spider gear surface is, the better your unit will work.

Resurfacing will be needed if a raised casting lip is on the gear face that will mate with Phantom Grip unit. It will need to be removed and can be done with patience on a bench grinder/table saw or a lathe if you have access to one. (If you don't remove that casting lip, it will grind a ring into Phantom Grip unit and there will not be enough mating surface there to get any type of performance.
Clearances do not have to be exact, only be concerned if clearance is are more than
.030. A nice precise fitment with a smooth flat mating surface is necessary and even resurfacing the gear face to freshen up the surface is recommended.

Tip #3

Check springs for coil bind when using tuning shims from upgrade spring kits. You can take just a bit off the green spring where it will site in the spring seat, if you need too.

Tip #4
Always check part # if your unit does not fit by more than 0.030. Contact us direct, if you feel it is not correct.

Tip #5
Check clearances between Phantom Grip & spider gears.

.005 - .010
is the recommended amount.
